The Showman

November 4, 2025

Joel has the handle to compete at a high level. He’s shifty, confident, and has a certain flash to his game that makes the crowd say “ooh” and “ahh” when he’s in rhythm. The next step for him will be sharpening his shot and improving his playmaking decisions. At times he tries to split traps or double teams — which shows his creativity — but learning when to attack and when to trust his teammates will elevate his game even more.

I’ve had the pleasure of coaching Joel since May, and watching him take his bumps and bruises while continuing to grow has been rewarding. His confidence is rising, his work ethic is showing, and I’m confident he’ll make the A team — and most likely start — for his middle school squad. Once the season starts, I believe he’ll have his way more often and show people just how far he’s come.

Joel represents what development is all about — trusting the process, embracing challenges, and showing up consistently. His journey reminds every young hooper that growth takes patience and persistence. If he continues to lock in and stay coachable, his future in this game will be special.
